I meant to post these pics some time back, but due to a computer problem I couldn't retrieve them from the hard drive.
Anyhow,
Our pin-clips come in a box like this one:

Inside the box, we have these:

They have small nails in the clips and are nailed to timber joists, like so:

Then the cable is run across the clip, which is then closed around the cable sheath:

Buckle clips are the same thing, but have no nails and are used for adding to existing runs of cables.
Both types come in 38,50,64 and 76mm sizes. [Linked Image]
