Hard drives are cheap. I usually have several old ones on the shelf with data on them just so some stuff is always safe. All of my systems have multiple drives. A CD burner is pretty good for archiving off stuff you want to save but there is nothing like having copies on a hard drive.
I swap SCSI hard drives like diskettes.
Just be aware that when a new drive shows up in your system your addresses will change.
(unless you do the "0k primary partition" trick)
