A couple of additional items.
The ty-rap was used to hold a plastic shopping bag that was wrapped around the motor conductors (presumably to keep water out??)
The flex connector was actually not a flex connector at all, but a flex-EMT coupling with the gland ring and nut removed.
The whole thing was grounded only through the iron air lines connected to it.
It was like this for 2 years despite my constant warning (read scolding), until the motor went bad and was replaced. Good thing a bearing went instead of a ground fault, ehh? Boy these guys make me mad...S
