Has anybody here heard of flashover hazards due to the presence of floating spider web threads in vicinity of HV equipment? These threads are very good insulators but also very sticky and can attach lot of conductive stuff in a way.Are there any case studies regarding these things?

What, nobody interested?I'd recon the guys who work with MV utility lines should be interested in such matters.

Friend of mine who works as load dispather in 35/110 kV substation tells me they register increased number of faults on 110 kV power line in late summer and begging of autumn.Phase to phase faults (more frequently) which is strange. They exluded birds, switching surges and weather as the cause. They suspect floating spider webs might be responsible, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.
