Here is a picture of my youngest son (Caper # 2). He is holding a typical 120 volt 25 watt light bulb in his left hand. In his right hand is a 1000 watt 120 volt mogul base light bulb that my uncle use to use in his photography business. He used it to light his models/subjects while he was on site taking pictures. I thought that you might like a glimpse of this bulb.

Picture one shows David holding the bulbs to give you a size difference between bulbs. Picture 2 shows that actual writing on top of the bulb.

How much heat did a 1000Watt bulb make? a 200Watt 3Way throws alot of heat. And Is this before the days of HID?

Theres always enough room in the junction box.You just need a bigger hammer

That one kilowatt Luxor lamp generates the same amount of heat as a 1000 watt electric heater.

The conversion factor for incandescent lamps to heat is 1:1 (one to one).

My uncle use to be a commercial and model photographer back in the 60's and 70's. He used to have like a big umbrella with the buld on the inside to illuminate the face of the model. There wasn't HID lighting at this time except for fluorecent. (I believe) There use to be some outside light fixtures that would use these same bulbs. Then along came the HID lights and these big bulbs went the way of the T-Rex.

Remember the "exploding light bulbs" thread?

That 1k bulb would be a real doozie!

One of my first electrical experiences was converting our high school stage lighting equipment from incadescent to halogen bulbs. I learned the hard way about touching the quartz envelope. lol

You can still buy 1000 watt mogel base lamps.

This lamp claims 23740 Lumens that is very close to what a 400 watt metal halide lamp produces. [Linked Image]
