Power company 3 phase insulators
My brother found the bigger of the two in this picture, in my mom's grass. The smaller clear plastic one (takes two to make a diamond pattern insulator for 3 phase lines running down the street I found on the road about 40 years ago. The yardstick is to give an idea of how big these things are. The power company had been in the area installing the big insulators on their 3 phase lines that the old insulators had failed to hold onto. Probably a part of the Sandy storm cleanup.

ive seen a few lying around hanging on poles, wanting to grab one or 10, lol but havnt had the time to stop.

I found a big insulator laying in the road many years ago and when Charley ripped the one off the pole in front of my house and it broke in the road, I noticed it was the same insulator. I put mine out there by the pole and when the PoCo crew arrived, they used it. I guess they thought the company left it there. Now I can look out the window and see "my" insulator working for me.

Spacer cable insulator. Those have been around 60 years, still used today.

What system voltage are we talking here?
I was always under the impression that these things were only to be used as a temporary thing to stop live phase wires from clashing while changing out a damaged pole?
Hence the lifting eye at the top.
I could have the wrong idea as well, does anyone have a pic of these in use up on a pole?

I see these on the MV lines going down the road. Not so much on the HV lines going from town to town.
The MV lines are strung much closer together in that triangle configuration implied by the shape of that insulator.
I never looked to see if they just use them in the "twist" tho.
You have me curious now.
