Hi,

I have supervised quite a few gas turbine installs (electrical) and i can tell you that the nec exempts power companies from adhering to the nec. i think the ref is on the first couple pages.

dont even try it!

I have seen people get ran off the job for arguing about this subject.

I have worked on many of these projects all over the US and it doesnt matter WHAT state you are in you will not see any inspector on these jobs...they are not allowed. the only time an inspector is allowed on these facilities is to verify electrical licenses in the few states that even require them.

most of the time they will try to follow the nec but i have seen hundreds of examples where the nec was not observed...cable trays, conduit fill, fittings, supports etc just to name a few.

if you work on one fo these projects dont even bring a code book!

some of it is pretty scary!

US Military bases and other Federal properties, are not subject to the NEC unless specified in contract. Don't get me wrong here... Most of the contracts, spec's and contractors self adhear to code, but don't nessesarilly have to as the Fed's don't recognize it. Funny thing is that as many of these bases and facilities get turned over, many get retrofitted to comply with local codes. So to make it easier, and save a buck in future turn over, they have started following the codes and other building practices more.
