Studying for my master exam I used videotapes for Tom Henry. He mentioned properly torquing connections so often that I bought a Klein torque screwdriver and wrench. He made a good point too that over tightening is just as bad as under tightening. Also, apparently, one of the things expert witness in court cases focus on is whether connections were torqued properly. Its cheap money, its peace of mind, and its the code!

Careful, that one's in inch-ounces...
(I was wondering how one could get 50 in-lbs+ on a screwdriver that small!!!)
Side note, 36 in lbs is about as much as I want to torque with just my wrists. Anything above that is wrench time!

OK, Anyone who has used a torque wrench/screwdriver ever use it and break the screw or nut that you were trying to torque down? Now what do you do? What do you say? Can you give it back to your supply house? Is it covered? Any comments?

I Broke a Lug once on a small disconnect. The supply house replaced the lug without problem. I think my problem may have had more to do with the lug being brittle from colder weather.

Stripped out a Square D QO breaker, supply house replaced it with no problem, after all, they're the ones that sold me the torque screwdriver.

I bought seceral torque screwdrivers/wrenchs for my men to use, however after breaking a lug or two, they were afraid to use them. Nothing is worse then trying to install a meter socket, break a lug, be 30 miles from a supply house and try to get the job done on time.

Harold: I beg to differ with you but: Doing a commercial meter re-arrangement on Saturday, about 5:00PM, broke the line side lug on a 3 phase meter pan. (GPU Junk) Used the torque wrench, to the spec on the pan. Thought we had a "spare"; No. Installed seven, brought seven to job. No supply houses open..... Had to call-in a marker; got one of the local supply house owners at home, said "ya owe me one". He came in, & sold me another one. That took alll of 3 1/2 hrs, and made a long day a little longer.
