I think that if the lighting units weren't included on the circuit, there would be no violation.

It appears to be a violation, but...could someone explain to me how a door opener with a keyless lamp nearby is less "safe" than an opener with a built-in light?

I guess the fact that the light on the unit is actually part of the "equipment fastened in place" distinguishes it from any other fixtures (sorry, luminaires) on the circuit.
