This kind of thing is sometimes done here by running the cables down a chain or wire rope, similar to pendant controls for an overhead travelling crane. That way the forklifts can run down the desk and file cabinet without damaging the electrix.
Reno, I do that kind of work all the time and strut works beautifully! There are enough parts on the market to make the install look almost anyway you want it to. As was stated earlier, the strut can be used as a raceway with covers and you can even find boxes made to work with the strut as a raceway. They mount right to the front of the channel as an approved means. Also, as far as I know, the speaker wire and the power wires can be run in the same chase as long as the insulation for the speaker wires is good for the line voltage in the same raceway. I could be wrong on that part though.
Welcome to ECN huungrycat, in general it is a good idea to read the opening question before answering the question.

Conventional power poles seem to be out of the question, because 1_ they aren't tall enough. 2) they really aren't supported that well anyway, and 3) the receptacles are in the wrong places.

Hubbell and Wiremold do in fact make power poles in that length. We juts install several 20ft poles in a local retail chain. It is required to be secured on the top and bottom.
