Being able to supply twice as much power at the same amount of current certainly seems a step in the right direction considering large parts of the worlds commonly have general purpose circuits with 10, 13 or 16 A at 230/240 V throughout their homes. Higher voltages also have the major advantage of reducing voltage drop.
