I remember when GFI's first came out, they were so big that they wouldn't fit in a normal box. They came with a small extension box ( or ring) which you would have to place behind the new GFI recpt. and screw to the original box in the wall. Like a see through Wiremold box, except it was made out of plastic and it was the same color as the GFI. ( back then it was either Ivory or brown.)

OOPS! Sorry! smile My old boss used to work for his boss and back then, they used to drill all their holes using a brace and bit! Everything was armor cable, no RX and the outside wire was lead sheathed.

However staying on thread, I am still hearing stories about how AFCI's trip and they figure out why. I haven't had the pleasure (yet) of trouble shooting them. Heck, I just install an electronic ballast for the first time in my own house.
