I have had no troubles with either AL SE or SER cables here.

Several fairly recent jobs have had 4/0 SER to feed the panel from the outside disco.

The only issue I have seen is the UV degradation of the overall jacket after years of service.

Aluminum wire, in an aluminum lug (and most are) is a better "fit" than copper. I think any concern is mostly hype from political hacks at CPSC and a bunch of New York home inspectors. They base this crusade on quarter century old reports of problems in branch circuit wiring.
