Maybe this will help you. I recently bought some of these transmitters and modules: http://www.lightningswitch.com/

We had a situation with 2 lights over a fireplace. The old fixtures had switches on them but the customer wanted us to install new fixtures with wall switch. The circuit had no switches in it, and with the brick from the fireplace it was impossible to install one. Installed a transmitter and hard-wired module, and it works great. I'm not fond of the look of the switches, but it did the job for us.

No need to resort to something ugly for this situation. These: http://www.smarthome.com/2466dw.html will do the job very nicely, with grace and style.
