I would think Delta Wye set ups would be a thing of the past. Now it's soft starts or VFDs.

Yes, I agree they are on the way out and not to soon for me. This way of starting motors has caused headaches for everyone. To bad the IEC manufacturers haven't received the message YET.
I can buy a 85 amp 60hp soft start for just under $700.00. I haven't checked the price on contactors since I rarely use them anymore.
Even on the smaller motors the soft starts are very inexpensive.

Search the controls and use .50 multiplier against the list price. This will give you an idea of what you may pay.
