All,

Again, thanks much for the sage advice and thoughtful comments – very, very helpful!

We have begun to follow the advice given… We have let people in our business network that we are looking to hire good folks, and for people with the capability and interest to learn a well paying trade and who want to work for a growing company where the will be treated more like family than employees, we are willing to invest time and $$ to help them learn the trade, and pay them a competitive wages / benefits,

We will use a two week probation period so they can determine if being a “service oriented” residential electrician fits with career objective and so we can tell if they have the aptitude – both technically (is wiring something that comes naturally to them) and personally (do they work well with customers and co workers.)

We will be looking for folks who come from families with a strong work ethic and who a stable family situation.

Two last questions: 1) Does anyone know of any resources on to keep us out of legal trouble? We want to be sure we don’t discriminate against anyone, open ourselves up law suits down the road if for some reason we have to let them go. Hopefully there are some books or articles out there. 2) We are open to any and all suggestions on ways to find the lowest cost way to get quality benefits for our employees.
