Here's a panel in a house only 3 years old. Note the conductors around the buss bolts, they come from the generator disco which is NOT a DPDT, only a DPST, and it feeds the whole panel... Not clearly visible are six single pole 30A breakers feeding the #12 and #14 receptacles and lights feeders. He wanted me to put an indicator light in before the main so he could tell when the power came back on... -Virgil

there is no noodle isolation here either, given a main disco before this panel. maybe the indicator light needs to be @ the firehouse?

You've sure got the haywired customers, Virgil. Did this guy explain to you his sequence of breaker flipping-switch throwing in the event of an outage? Oops would sure cause him some trouble. I think he'd be better off with a Maglite and some Coleman lanterns.

There was a homemade set of instructions on the panel cover with lots of !!!! explaining the procedure. There was a 30A 240V (not 120/240V) disco for the genny above the panel. He didn't understand when I tried to explain that the feeders between the 30A disco and the panel were hot and "protected" at 200A, only #10 wire with very bad connections... No box in the house was bonded, grounds twisted together with no connector, boxes way too small (those 45ยบ angle corner metal boxes), etc. etc. on and on... (boy I sound like a scratched record sometimes...)
He refused the work and said he'd take care of the 30A breakers himself.
How much you want to bet that they would trip 15's anyway do to overload.
How 'bout I change the subject before I become depressed? Steve, No main disco (back to back, kinda) so the neutral is OK...
