I seem to recall instructions with older GFCIs that limited you to 5 or 6 downstream outlets. The intent was to limit the length of wire so as to limit the normal leakage of the system. I haven't seen that instruction for a number of years.

I too remember a few with 5 or 6 limits on the load side of the device.....
