I always just use my fingers. If you push in on the canopy while getting the nut as tight as you can with your fingers it will be pretty tight when you let up on the canopy. If not, you might have to shorten the screws.
The thing that ticks me off is the threads are not the same as SAE threads. If you cut the outer end of the screws off you will never get the cap nut to go back on, and you can't re thread it with your Kliens. So you have to cut the back side after it is threaded thru the strap.
