Greg that is my basic attitude, if a refrigerator trips a GFCI it is a refrigerator problem not a GFCI one.

It strikes me odd that people that would never move up a breaker size if a circuit tripped on overcurrent would think that removing A GFCI is the best course of action if an appliance trips a GFCI.

I also have read in the handbook that many times the issues with refrigerators are faulty electric defrost circuits.
