Yep I would listen to AM radio from Tucson, KOMA in OK City, WLS in Chicago. I believe KOMA was 50,000 watts. Then there were the mega watt stations South of the border. I listened to the one in Monterrey a lot.
I had a 50 foot wire stretched across the roof and a little 9 volt Toshiba shortwave and I would sit on the roof at night and listen to the whole world.
