I have not seen any of the drop rods in the field. A large percentage of the ECs here have the ceiling guys install drop wires for the luminaires.
We do not have the seismic issues that you guys on the 'shaky side' have. Diagonal corners on the lay-in fixtures, along with mechanical connection to the grid is the norm.
