You would need to look at BC Building Code for reference to Carbon Monoxide detector requirements, or if working in Vancouver then the Vancouver Building Bylaw.
Generally if you have a suite with a fuel burning appliance(range, furnace, fireplace etc.) or attached storage garage you would need a detector. City of Vancouver has a bulletin on this.
