myself i try to keep the gfi's inside , and/or out of the elements.
for instance , most of my new wire jobs have an exclusive outside receptacle circuit dependeant on a panelroom GFI
it's somewhat more economical too, given $$$ of wire vs. $$$ of the newer GFI's imho...
