Steve, why wouldn't you be able to work on things in your home? Va does have owner/builder permits doesn't it? Maryland issued me a building permit along with grading, roof, plumbing, HVAC and electrical for a 1000 sq/ft, 2 story addition I put on. Florida let me build a pool, screen cage and pool electric.
