States vary on there DOL laws...NJ, for example is a "work at will" state - meaning as quickly as you as hired, you can be fired ( a collective bargining agreement being the exception) for NO reason. Some states are a "right to work", and will follow different rules.
Simply put, you need to know YOUR state's labor laws AND YOUR contracts signed in regards to employment.
