I've had one of these tools for 20+ years. Real handy item. You insert the tool with the cutting blade resting on the rim of the adapter and you turn it, it peels off the ring and allows you to remove the bakelite insert, then you flip the tool around so the round end is in the remaining shell and unscrew it as you would a broken light bulb.
