Actually the municipal electric department is about in the middle of a 2 to 3 year project to change the meters to a remote read type.

Mine has been changed and these ones may have been updated too.

At the time this was installed I doubt they where thinking of remote read meters.

I think The electrician had no imagination on how to mount to the stone foundation, also the load side of the meters must all be exiting down low on the back of the meter pan to go through the sill into the basement.

Around here most inspectors want OCP no more than 5' feet inside before requiring an outside OCPD, so the panels must be right behind and below the meter stack.

The installer should be embarrassed every time he goes by this.
