I'm curious as to how lead in solder is being treated in the States now.
In this part of the world, I understand that the EU is trying to get leaded solder banned within the next few years.
Lead solder is still available here. However, it is illegal to use it on potable water systems.
Lead solder is also against the water bye-laws (like local city ordinances) in most places here now for potable supplies. It only applies to new work, and apart from lead-solder joints there are still plenty of pre-WWII properties with a soft lead service pipe.
If/When lead solder does get completly banned from sale here, I'm going to lay in a big supply of it before the day. Some older parts just don't take to the lead-free stuff.
