Well, we shut down switch gear today and they made me "touch the 2,700"

Elaborate on this a little.
If they literally had you "touch" the 2700 volt buss, what safeguards did they utilize?
Also, who had you do this? The Poco or your crew?

My old chief used to say the only difference between 120 and 440 was whether they could have an open coffin

Yes I know, Ive been working on 480 Volt racks systems for supermarkets for 10 years now, there isnt much in electrical controls I havent done. (which is why this electrical company hired me, I have a lot of credible references from many professionals.) Ive done more in electrical service than anything else. Ill be fine - trust me. Thanks for the concern though. I just wanted to learn for about the transformers and switch gear. Thats basicly the only stuff I havent worked on.

I can top that. [Linked Image] I got to don all the appropriate PPE and touch a live 12,000v lug in a padmount switch. [Linked Image]

The sensation was quite odd, and it gave me an even higher respect for the POCO linemen!!

Of course, that doesn't count getting bit by the xenon lamp ignitor in a projector once. (50kv, very high frequency and I'd say a few milliamps.) My hand was numb for most of the day. [Linked Image]
