New thread for...what assemblies would be good for estimating. Some I have are...

10'EMT with 12 ga wire (varying quantities of wire) with connectors.
Recessed light with whip.
Exterior service assembly.
Interior and exterior grounding.
Smoke alarms with whip.
MD dual flood with whip.

Any suggestions for others???

I have assemblies in my estimating software for all the symbols on a print for residential.
Some switch examples are:
S
S,S
S,S3
S,S3,S3

Receptacle examples:
120v 15a duplex recpt. indoor
120v 15a decora recpt. indoor
120v 15a GFCI recpt indoor
120v 15a GFCI recpt outdoor

When I do a takeoff on a house I count the symbol and enter the number into my software.
The symbol includes the box, wire, switch, wirenuts, staples, Labor etc. So if there are 5 symbols on the print of S,S3 I select the S,S3 assembly and enter a count of 5.
The software lists all the materials and labor for the five S,S3 taken off.
I can do a takeoff very quickly just by counting each symbol on the print and entering in the quantity.
I have everything to wire a house made into assemblies. Service, Loadcenter, Bath fans,
Smoke detectors, appliances etc.
The software came with a lot of commercial assemblies already set up in it.
I created the residential assemblies myself to match the symbols on the print. The software is set up so that it will break out the rough in from the trim out when I do the takeoff so I will have a time & material list for each.
