The Tuna can extension cover was needed for space to add the NMs.

Free air splices like this in many locations.

This is dedicated outlet for a washing machine, it has had a plug-in surge suppressor and is feeding the cord that is shown here:

The white panel is the door into a basement apartment.

My friend is fixing these things along with a new service, public hall lighting, 4 wire dryer outlets, smoke detectors etc.

Sorry Charlie, but this has to go.
Reminds me of another photo I saw where a guy had used coffee cans and keyless fixtures to design his own can lights. If necessity is the mother of invention, I wonder who the father was.

Yes, but try to get him to pay support for his offspring! [Linked Image]

I kind of like the tuna can... It's better than masking tape.

iwire - I'm glad your friend is fixing those things - originally, I thought your post was about work your friend had done. [Linked Image]

(With friends like that, who'd need enemies (or references)? Just follow them around, fixing their mistakes!)

No he is fixing what I showed and more.

This is a side job but my friend is no trunk slammer, he has had the POCO and the inspector out to the job before starting work.

He has gone back to the customer and gotten them to pay for the additional repairs.

The service in this thread is the one he is replacing.

The real blunder in this installation is the removal of the smoke alarm!!!!

Sometimes people will show me this type of work and ask for my opinion (but not want me to fix it). My response is...

"keep fresh batteries in your smoke alarms and plan your escape route".
