i have just come back from a metal fabrication plant with a bit of a problem.

the press is a 60 / 70 tonne machine press that is fed via a three phase DOL (direct on line) contactor via a three phase disconnect and fuse panel.

that in itself is easy (ish) but the problem is that i cannot find the replacement fuses for the panel anywere.

they are a Crabtree BS88 / 1952
RATED AT 440V AC 4
List No: 15947 (30amp)

they are about an inch and a half long and barrel shaped with caps on either end, they look like the US type cartridge fuses but i cant find them anywere.

i have Yellow phase down on the press at the moment, the owner wants me to `bodge` the fuse with some fuse wire, i told, in no uncertaint terms, that i aint gonna do that.

if anyone out there can help i would be grateful. emai me if you can help.
i will need one to start with to get the press runninmg but a want some spares as well.

I know it as a Pull-Cap fuse, it may have a different name where you are.
But, one thing I do know is, Radio Spares (RS)Components has them.
Hope this helps.

Or are they the BS88 ones with bolt-on lugs? If so, try the other BS88 categories there. The Fuse Company seems to have a very wide range.

I'd get in touch with The Fuse Company above. They seem to offer a specialty service for anything which is hard to obtain.

just got off the phone to them, they have only got them in 16amp, bugger!
but there might be light at the end of the tunnel, they are going to call one of there companies in Ireland to see if they have any.

we live in hope.

Ahh, so that's the sort of fuse you're after.
I've seen some of them here, but not for a few years now, I might add.

have had, delivered yesterday Two 32Amp fuses for the use of from the FUSE company.

bot did they do it for me, they new what i as on about and they said that these particular fuses went out of production in 75`, they had non on the shelf but they found the last two remaining in Ireland, sent them to me , and opened me an account as well,

the cost was £6.50 each plus £2.50 post / packing.

will be using them again for sure.

and again, thank you, that has now got the machine up and running and back into full production.

the fault was found to be a `spike` in the local POCO transformer, just outside the building,
