It's actually quite amazing just how many different standards did evolve for various things in the past.

Look at nuts and bolts: Unified fine and coarse, Whitworth, SAE, British Association, metric.....

Looking at your list on your web page. I thought you might like to compare it to our list.

If you look at your list, you'll notice that you have several options if going from mm2 to kcmil. E.g. 35 mm2 can be either #2 or #3. Whilst such a list can be a help in choosing sizes when going from one set of units to the other, I have chosen to quote the exact values for the AWG sizes straight out of the US NEC.
