No...not the first-thing-Saturday-morning-feeling...

Have any of you UK guys ( or non-UK for that matter ) got involved in wind or water turbines/invertors/etc? I seem to be getting a bit more of that nowadays thru' a neighbour who runs installation/maintenance on these things.

Anyone here do such work?

I've not been involved with any turbine work, but there are two windfarm sites just a few miles down the coast from me, and a newly constructed set of wind turbines that have just been built in the sea at Great Yarmouth.

Indeed, I have heard of the Gt Y'th farm - dunno why, unless it was thru my brother who lives nr Norwich...

We are about to have a huge farm built in the Solway too. It has caused much controversy - as you can imagine - but seems to be going ahead anyway. I can't remember the number of turbines they are planning to build; it's a lot!

I've posted some links somewhere before, but if you do a Google search on "wind turbines" and "Somerton" or "Blood Hill" you'll get a few links for the land-based sites near me.

Hey Guys, I'm a UEA grad (Univerity of East Anglia - Norwich) and the rumours I heard were that the uni were going to having some wind turbines build on, or near, campus to bolster our supply. UEA already has its own generating plant, which forms part of our heating system. It's quite a cool set up for the uni as they can generate their own power if its cheaper to do so and even sell the surplus back to the grid, or if its cheaper to buy off the grid the engines are ran with no load to just keep the water hot. Neat!

Interesting that UEA has it's own generating plant. I've only ever driven through the complex a couple of times; it's a huge, sprawling campus.

There are a couple of sites just outside the city that look prime candidates for possible wind turbines as well. There's some elevated ground which is mostly empty just south of the city on the Southern Bypass (A47) around the Harford Bridge area.

UEA is foreer expanding; three or so new departments, new accomodation and a whole new catering wing in development this year alone! If you get a chance to go through again walk round on level 01, below the main walkway level, its a miriad of cabling, services and sub-station compounds. Not that I spent much time looking, what with the degree and all, of course ahem!

Norfolk's a prime place for wind power, sinse its so flat and there's almost a constant breeze coming inland from the sea.
