Ok, im sure lots of us have seen/worked on this stuff, Im currently re-wiring a house which has for the past xx? years been powered by lead cables, and just found it funny on the amount of Junction boxes used, 9 in total [Linked Image]

Anyway heres a few snaps.

I still come across lead cables in some places around Norfolk, mostly on lighting circuits.

The box in the first pic is well packed! I've seen too many boxes absolutely crammed full of wires like this.

I like the guaranteed insulation values on that cable. It would interesting to meg it out now and see what the values are like.

Do you believe me if I tell you that you find lead cables (of PVC) with the modern colour code in Sweden? They must have been installed in the 1970's.

I see the guy who installed this junction box was a "pretwister". [Linked Image]

Yeah....it's just a tad tight in there...

WE have lead sheathe cable in our old shed. It is in an MC conduit (I don't know if it was manufactured that way, or the LS cable istalled into the flex conduit on the job).

Are there regulations for disposing of lead-sheathed cable or can you just toss it out in the skip with the rest of the debris?

Or do you take it to the recycler's where they can separate the lead from the copper (and give you some beer money for it)

All the cable i stripped out was thrown out with the rest of the rubbish.

I dont think their is any money in lead, and being a small amount its only fit for the bin.

The stuff I strip out usually goes out with all the other building debris to end up at the local dump.

What happens then is very dependent upon the local authority involved. I don't know whether my local council reclaims lead or not.
