I had my CD ROM drive fail this morning and now I can't find E drive, that was the drive name.
In My Computer I'm talking about.
Can I create another E drive?
I've nursed the drive back to health and have re-installed it.
Is there some place in Windows XP that I can create a new E drive?.
The computer will boot from the drive but Windows keeps coming up with a Code 41, whatever that means?.
It finds the drivers, but it tells me it can't find the drive.
Can anyone help me??.

Hi there! long time no see.

If you have drive letters it implies you are still running some version of Windows, and I seem to remember that you were using XP.

So. Start => Control Panel => Administrative tools.

In the Computer Management control panel there is an option for "Disk Management".

If you right-click a device or partition, there is an option "Change Drive letter and Path" to allow the drive letter to be re-assigned.

I see from an earlier thread that you were going to format a blank partition on your disk. If you did so, it might be that after you did, that the new volume grabbed the old drive letter, and everything else has had to shift around to make room for it.

I am not familiar with code 41. Where do you see that?

Formatting a drive should not affect drive numbers. They are assigned when a partition is detected, formatted or not.

Hi there.
Code 41 came from a constant error message I kept getting when trying to get the CD-Rom drive to operate.
As in:
It's all sorted out now though,I went to the link that Greg posted below and then did as it said and lo and behold up popped E:\ in My Computer.
I don't think that it actually had anything to do with altering the drive letters on my HDD (as in C and D drives).
Thanks for your help guys, now I can have music again when sitting here!.
