Hi there guys,
A mate of mine has just "upgraded" his computer from Windas '98 to XP and he now finds that his scanner (that worked fine before), won't even accept the drivers, let alone work.
It mentions something about a 16-bit sub-system every time he tries to load the drivers.
I went on line for him and found some drivers that I thought would work, but no, the same old thing.
I'd hate to think that this guy has to throw out a perfectly good scanner, just because of one of Mr Gates' little plans.
BTW, the scanner is a Plustek Optic Pro 600P.
Hopefully we aren't talking about another of the Windas "Funny-money" things, that won't work with XP at all!. [Linked Image]
Could some of our computer guru's please help, is there a fix to get the scanner operational again, even within the XP OS?.

"Please notice that this driver does not support Windows XP."

I have a friend who went over to XP when he bought a new system a while ago. He ended up having so many problems, including plenty with drivers for his peripherals that in the end he installed 98SE on the system instead.

I would keep looking for an XP driver and perhaps a software load. Ther are some things that are simply not supported under XP

Still on 98SE here

I would consider rolling back to a different version of windows. Win2k is a better product than XP anyway.. simpler, more like 98 but with .00002% fewer bugs which is a pretty good record for MS. XP is truly overrated. Nice too, the way hardware vendors stand by their customer base by releasing up to date drivers for their hardware.. /sarcasm I have been burned a few times with the same driver isssues, namely, no XP driver at all. I would recommend 2k over XP all day long, or better yet, just use that copy of 98 you already own from a few computer systems back.

PS- some MS NT4.0 drivers also work under win2k (which is basically MS windows NT 5.0) NT 4.0 was their industria-grade OS whose develompent was coeval with 95/98, it just wasn't aimed at the home desktop market.
