I'm not an electrician(vinyl siding installer)and I don't mean to intrude but I'm surfing looking for a solution and thought I'd try this forum.
I'm currently living in a garage apartment(Tennessee).Upstairs is 1300 sq. ft.with elec. stove,refrigerator,dishwasher,and microwave.
Downstairs is 1300 Sq. Ft. with washer/dryer and hot water heater,3 ton split heat pump.Everythings electric.
The service is underground with a 200 amp panel.
I'm also currently framing our house which is connected to the garage apartment by a breezeway.24 feet between new house and garage.
The new house is 3500sq. ft.with the same appliances as mentioned above excluding the washer/dryer.3 ton split heat pump upper floor and 3 1/2 ton package on bottom floor.
What are my service options? I'm hoping to hook up to the exsisting underground service on the same meter.
The meter is on the garage. Is it possible to set 200 amp breaker panel in my new house and then run the service wire 40 ft.(via the breezeway ceiling) to the exsisting meter.
Would I have to upgrade the garage breaker panel and meter to 400 amp?
All opinions appreciated.Haven't hired an electrician yet.
Thanks Mike.

Mike,
a good place to start might be a 'Demand Load Calc"
