Yeesh. Relying on the conduit alone for a ground, the flex means there's about a 50/50 chance there was a low-impedance ground in the first place, before the corrosion. That's some scary stuff.

Most likely that most services fail the loop impedance test.

Actually, it's rigid conduit, not emt. Was back there today with some big-wigs trying to decide what to do. Honestly I hope we don't get the job. The heat for these townhouses is a boiler system and the pipes also run from one townhouse to the next in the crawlspaces. It must be 40 degrees down there and this is in Canada where outside it's -20!(Celsius) Alot of the work will have to be done in the crawlspace and it's rat heaven!!!

How old is this? That's some ate-up rigid, by god. It looks like it's been sitting on a coastal shore-line for twenty years.

Makes me wonder if an awful lot of buried rigid ends up looking like this? How long does the galvanizing last? I rarely espouse the use of PVC, but this should've been schedual 80 if anything ever was.

PS: EddyCurrent, if you end up in the crawl-space with the rats (and their droppings) get some respirators. That's nasty dust to be breathing.
