Are you kidding? That's CLEAN compared to what I found in my gated community! At least everything there is mounted on a board, more-or-less.

Our stuff was just piled into the bottom of the motor cabinets. Loop detectors, relays, transformers, everything embedded in a big fur-ball of wires and wirenuts, lying on the ground. I wish I'd taken pictures before I cleaned it all up.

That is an amazingly complicated panel for a residential gate, though...

Looks familiar, there's alot of hodge-podged gate stuff here. Too many C-13 "Gate Guys" doing C-10, and access/security work.

Loads of crap in there for sure. Looks like the gardners got their LV lighting trans/timer in there (black box mid right) too.

That CL 2 transformer on the bottom left can be counted on to flame out soon too. (I used to see the same doing CCTV work.) Note the discoloration.

Considering the live bare terminals in the mid-bottom part of the enclosure.
What a mess.

Years ago I had to add some pneumatic solenoids to for a guard and hold downs with time delays of a large panel saw with a 20" blade in a cabinet shop.
After trying unsuccessfully to interface all of the new components into the existing control circuit I found that the control wiring had been changed form the original schematic. It was simpler to rip all of the wiring and rewire the panel by wiring in each limit switch, each relay, contactor, etc, and then adding the modifications.
Sometimes trying to figure out the mess takes more time than it would take to start from scratch and rewire the whole thing.
