This is a motor starter for a 200 HP pump which was installed in the early 60’s and is scheduled to be replaced soon. Appartently, the fuse clips loosened and someone got creative with beam clamps.

Anyone see any particular hazard here?

A listing and labelling violation, for sure, but nothing serious compared to most of the other pics that get posted here. Certainly seems a good temporary fix, until new fuse clips (or proper clamps) could be obtained.

BTW, the inside of this panel is in REAL NICE shape for being 40-odd years old!

AT least there are fuses there and not a piece of copper pipe.

How many amps are those fuses good for? They look huge to me, or are the labels just small?

You can learn something new every day. Maybe I could use beam clamps instead of split bolts to save $. It looks like they have a yellow crimp connectors double tapped on top of the fuses. Didn't they know they could have just used 1/4-20 screws into the beam clamp holes. The 1st wire at the top crimp looks a little scorched. Maybe they need a beam clamp to hold the wire tight in the crimp connector.

As much as I hate to admit it, if they made those clamps in copper, it would be a darn good idea to me. (OK, bomb me [Linked Image])

Well, 40 yrs might be slightly pushing the envelope of "temporary" [Linked Image]

Not Listed but, if most "fixes" were as neat and functional as that one, the world would be a bit safer

Go to the bottom part of this page for a listed clamp for this application.
