I had these 2 photos sent to me dealing with a RV park connection by a sharp eyed civil engineer who knew something was wrong. This violation list may not be complete as pictures of the overhead feeder were not provided.

1- The location is questionable (appears to be on the passenger side of unit). With the water spigot location, is working space provided. NEC 551.77(A), 110.26

2- Disconnecting means is missing. NEC 551.77(B)

3- Receptacle is not marked as required. NEC 551.77(F)

4- The equipment is not rainproof any more nor in some cases never was.
Covers must be weatherproof while-in-use. NEC 551.78(A), 406.8(B)

5- Question as depending on the rest of the distribution system, this may also require a 30 amp receptacle. NEC 551.71

6- Question that the overhead service is really a 4 wire system. NEC 551.75, 551.76(C)

7- The 15 or 20 amp receptacle is not protected against overcurrent.
Overcurrent protection on the 50 amp receptacle is most likely too great.
NEC 210.21(B)(1)

8- The NM or UF cable between the boxes must be: If NM replaced with a proper wiring method. NEC 334.12, 334.15, 334.30. If UF replaced with a proper wiring method or installed complying with the provisions of article 334 and sunlight resistant. NEC 340.10, 340.12

9- The telephone cable appears to be satin type and not listed for a wet location. NEC 800.4, 110.3(B), 800.50

10- The telephone cable is not properly supported. NEC 800.6

11- The telephone cable and protectors (assuming they exist within the box) are not properly grounded. NEC 800.40

12- What is extension cord doing here? It looks like it may be permanent.

13- GFCI protection is required for the 15 or 20 amp receptacle. NEC 551.71

14- The 15 or 20 amp receptacle is required to be 20 amp. NEC 551.71, 551.81

Not to add feul to the fire (pun intended), but the unfinished pole would never pass here either. A small point considering the rest of the mess, especially considering I see a tent, and assume medical attention is not too close by.

I would love to see the overhead on this, as I am a glutton for punishment.

The 50-amp receptacle could use a nice bead of bathtub caulk around the flange/cover hole, and squirted into those unsightly blade slots.

At least they have a convenient telephone demarc for in-tent internet access. [No cable-TV service, though?]

Zapped, wanna’ bet it’s a 90-foot span of orange 16/3 SJT cord knotted around a plastic electric-fence insulator?

Does any one know what the sticker above the 50A recpt say? "Use at your own risk" ???

LOL Bjarney! I bet you're right...

The irony is that most RV's don't use either of those plug patterns. There are also specific panels made for this use; I'll try to post pics soon.

Actually, that is a very standard configuration for larger RVs. With the advent of multiple air conditioners, the older 30a 120v service was not sufficent and many units now have 50 amp, 240 volt service using the 4 wire 50 amp plug. My '77 unit has such a service. Yes, they do make very nice in-use boxes for that application.
