This transformer was marked that it needed 6" air space front and rear.

It is heavily loaded 24/7 and the top was to hot to touch.

It was pushed back tight to the wall.

Understand that {economy} dry-type transformers are often rated at 150°C rise—which means the hottest part of the transformer can run 270°F above room temperature at rated load. Hence, the logic behind the labeled clearance requirement.
