This was taken at the local mall. It looks so nice.

"Now change out that switch to a deco". I still have nightmares...

There's a toggle like that in the Belfast, ME, post office lobby, except that the cut runs vertically on the right side of the toggle. The P.O. could probably squeeze in a deco, but I still hate the look of it. frown

Changing that switch to a decora is easy! 15 secs with a sawzall on that molding, problem solved! Let the carpenter figure out his error in choosing molding height.

Now, why should the carpenter have to pay for what was clearly a mistake by the electrician who failed to consider the architectural plan and mounted the box too low?

is there a hidden hinge on the molding to get to te bottom screw?

That's not necessarily a fair comment. I have one of those on a job I'm doing now. The engineer spec'd 48 inches, even though the two outlets beside were at 44 inches. The GC said to leave it and his carpenter said to leave it. They cut the woodwork back to accommodate the outlet.

Even in the case of a switch too close to a wide door frame, the electrician gets a phone call before the frame goes on.

My question is "what kind of a carpenter covers half a switch box"?

Perfect example of what "Reno" was talking about on another post. The "Cool Hand Luke" syndrome... Failure to communicate.. Just throw it over the wall to the other guy..

Cheers,

I saw one like that in a local church I was working in, it was the result of a remodel, put up moulding and did not move the switch. I am going to re wire this church soon and will move it up then.

There's a duplicate of that in one of the arcades at Six Flags Great Adventure! It's covered in ten coats of paint (or at least it was in October '07) so it looks even more like crap!
