Can tell someone didn't have a clue or a care when that was done..
Question , in the first pic with that flying splice, what kind of insulation is that? looks like that cellulose stuff that I think burns quite nice. Just curious as I found a few splices like that in a wall stuffed with newspaper dated as recent as 1989.

I ran into something like this recently except whatever idiot that did it thought that wrappinr it with 2 rolls of electrical tape would stop any problems from happening or something...WRONG!!!!

Rewired...the insulation is fiberglass with a top layer of blown cellulose...you are correct!
