Could it be that there is a remote system for reading the meter?

Actually the municipal electric department is about in the middle of a 2 to 3 year project to change the meters to a remote read type.

Mine has been changed and these ones may have been updated too.

At the time this was installed I doubt they where thinking of remote read meters.

I think The electrician had no imagination on how to mount to the stone foundation, also the load side of the meters must all be exiting down low on the back of the meter pan to go through the sill into the basement.

Around here most inspectors want OCP no more than 5' feet inside before requiring an outside OCPD, so the panels must be right behind and below the meter stack.

The installer should be embarrassed every time he goes by this.

At least they installed some rocks for the meter reader to climb up.

Actually, as Thinkgood mentioned, I believe most meter reading is done remotely these days. Not that this justifies the installation.

Could the building have been jacked up after the meters were installed? the rocks don't look original to me.

Is this fed with 2 sets of conductors? Are those SE cables or conduits coming out of the top?

TW, The stones look funny to me too, the stone might be just a veneer that was added.

The height is unchanged as on the front side you take one step up on to a porch then perhaps one more to enter the first floor.

Hard to tell here but this is on a grade that is at its lowest on the side we see.

I stopped by and walked right up to the service, it is Parallel runs of 1/0 or 2/0 SE AL Service Cable.

I am 5'-8" and on my toes I could put my fingertips on the center meter.

I would probably mount a piece of pressure treated lumber the size of the meter socket to the stones.

My first thought would be to get some epoxy anchors to put in the large stones to mount the lumber.

We have put site pole studs in the concrete base with the right kind of epoxy.

I never saw this before. Are there two seperate connectors on top and some double-hub type thingy on top? Does this Meter Enclosure have double lugs on the line side inside?

Bill yes those are the incoming service conductors.

I would like to be able to answer the rest of your questions, but I am unwilling to stop by with a ladder and pull the meters.

I was asking myself the same questions.

From the angle I had it looked like the spot for the "hub" was unused.

It looked like they punched their own holes for SE wet connectors.

The lugs I would like to see, my guess is the conductors are stacked in single lugs.
