I've thought I'd seen it all.

That is, until the other day. Imagine going to check on the electric out by this above ground swimming pool.

Now, before you look at the photos, imagine that you see an indoor-rated wall switch installed exposed to the elements. Then you see cracked and open conduit. Then you see a broken receptacle box.

Then you don't see any GFCI anywhere. Then you see this...

Indoor extension cord going up side of pool. Exposed cables. Connected to 110volt lighting. Ty-rapped to the metallic perimeter of this pool.

Just above the water line.

They would invite friends and family over for some swimming and electrocution, I suppose. On top of all this, there was an old ITE PushMatic panel, with aluminum wires in the house.

One other thing I found... Bell wire supplying power to an above sink lighting fixture in the bathroom. This wire was run on the exterior of the bathroom wall. This homeowner was a beaut.

It wasn't your typical Harry The Homeowner stuff here... It was Larry The Insane Homeowner, Harry's dumber brother.

It looks to me as though the homeowner worked in a mental hospital and was combining two old methods of patient treatment: shock therapy and hydrotherapy.

Does the same person who did this BELONG in a mental hospital?

Belong in a mental hospital? After somebody dies they should get the chair. [Linked Image]

What is wrong w/ Pushmatic other than being obsolete? It could be FPE or worse Zinsco!

I was going to say that some people shouldn't be trusted with a screwdriver but I realized he didn't even need a screwdriver to build that booby trap. Some people shouldn't be trusted with HANDS!

It must have been for the 4th of July - Red White and Blue rope lights, and a fireworks show when the system catastrophically fails!

Say I own a few of those light swaggs, they do say weather resistant NOT SUBMERGABLE.
But did I see correctly???
The ext cord was ran from within the light socket ????
Talk about left brain right brain.
the left brain knows how to wire into a light fixture but the right brain does not know about electrcity and water ???

how about ..."trusted with brains " ????

I think the primary failure is to assume there was a brain involved at all!!

Yikes, even the average slackard would be surprised by this!

There's homeowner that doesn't have to worry about quitting smoking! I'm surprised he's made it through life this far. Though there's plenty of people who think electricity and water not mixing well together is just an old wives tale.

What scares me the most about this set up is that this is probably in preparation for a birthday party or some other event that will put a lot more people than just the resident family members in the pool...
