Thanks for the clipping to Don who is a frequent ECN reader and member.

Might be my Fathers tombstone inscription! Poor guy likes to think he knows how to do stuff (and he is a good carpenter), but toss in something electric...scary. I've done a bunch of favors for my mom to fix my dads work. [Linked Image]
As Virgil would say -thread jack

Reminds me of a line from that great American philosopher Jeff Foxworthy. You might be a red neck if any of your relatives has died after saying "Hey Y'all watch this!!"

Now back to our original progaramming.

Scott

Lost the thread jack thing. Looked bad without it.

Too funny. Sadly, it's often true, but funny nonetheless
Believe it or not I had a girl walk up to a butane soldering iron I had with the hot end sitting off the edge of a desk and do just that. "Hey what's this thing for" and grabbed the hot end. Lucky I had turned it off a few minutes earlier and it was just very warm. No damage done.

I watched two friends welding the other day. Impressed with their work I put my hand on the steel... [Linked Image] Obviously, there's no limit to my stupidity.
Bump -- and more on AFCI stuff:

Reminds me of one hand behind the back or two hands across the chest.... where I have gotten careless shutting off the breaker for the light switch I was working on and not testing the wires in the box. I got a bit of a buzz that day. Three additions to our 80 year old house and the breaker box is not up to code... It is scarey what I have found in the first year of owning it.
I LOVE those older style homes, but unfortunately, we all know the wiring back 30, 40 or even 50 years ago is going to be outdated, chances are a complete gutting-out and remodel might have to be the answer. I fell in love with the homes in Albany (Wisc), as out here in Southern Az we dont get to see much of that. Does that shock you?
Be reminded that electrical work must be performed by qualified persons.
