PPE??

Well he is wearing his helmet....

Aside from a hard-hat (mandatory at most construction sites I've seen), what is the proper personal protection gear that should be used when working with (assume de-energized) wiring?

I would think the following:

Safety goggles (so you don't have little chips of wire or other stuff flying into your eyes). I wear eye-glasses...so that may be a bit cumbersome.

Gloves (so you don't get wood or worse, metal splinters - those aren't pretty, I learned the hard way . Now I wear work gloves)

What else?

A heavy apron, perhaps, maybe so you don't get crap caught in your clothing (down your shirt, etc.)?

I'm curious....

P.S.: PPE stands for Personal Protection Equipment, right?

Also, soldier-boy here looks like he's cutting that cable with a LEATHERMAN multi-tool! What if it's live??? All good side-cutters I've seen have plastic-insulated handles.

The rifle strapped to your back would probably keep complaints to a minimum.

Isn't he wearing the "original" hard hat?

You forgot to add Safety boots, and who has heavier boots than the Army.
Talking about PPE, when we normally do a job over here, we have more cover-up gear than the local Bomb-Squad,especially when jointing live 11kV cables.

The soldier better get that water heater powered up or there's going to be hell to pay, and plenty of volunteers to toss him into an icy shower.

I still have my first pair of linesman's pliers- they're Kleins- and they never had plastic on the handles! Besides, even the new ones say "not for protection against electrical shock." Maybe I should replace these junk tools- what is a quality brand you reccomend?
Even screwdrivers say "wear safety glasses." Are we being a little silly here?
Incidentally, for those who want to find affordable Nomex clothing (for flash protection), there is a variety of mil-spec shirts, jackets, etc., out there that were originally designed for wear by flight crews, tank crews, etc. Check places that sell to the military or law-enforcement communities.
